Electronics

As silicon transistors are getting smaller and smaller, eventually quantum mechanical effects will dominate. Quantum effects change the properties of matter and lead to change in optical, electrical and magnetic behavior. Nextnano software customer can simulate Advance Nano Devices like Double Gate (DG) MOS, MOSFET, FINFET, Strained Silicon, Hetero-structures (Si/SiGe)

Optoelectronics

Optoelectronics is based on the quantum mechanical effects of light on electronic materials, especially semiconductors. Optoelectronic devices consist of different semiconductor alloys lying on substrates. nextnano efficiently simulate optoelectronic devices like Multi-QW (Quantum Well), QCSE, PIN photodiode, QWR/CEO, etc.

Quantum Cascade Lasers

Quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) are semiconductor lasers that emit in the mid- to far-infrared portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. nextnano.QCL uses Non-equilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) method for calculating I-V curves and the gain of QC laser.

Solar Cells

A solar cell directly converts light energy into electrical energy (photovoltaics). Light shining on the solar cell produces both a current and a voltage to generate electric power. Nextnano software is capable of solving Silicon, cascade, GaAs, and intermediate-band based solar cells.

Qubits

A quantum computer uses qubits rather than bits to store and process information. Possible applications are quantum dots (QDs) as single-photon sources for quantum information processing or coupled QDs as solid-state qubits for information storage (quantum computing)

Bio Chips

Nextnano can simulate biosensors that consist of a semiconductor that is connected to a “biomaterial”, e.g. a charged molecule in a liquid (electrolyte). An electrical or optical signal in the semiconductor is generated to detect DNA, proteins or the pH value.
